The following spaces are helpful in locating the neurovascular structures in the posterior scapular region (Figure 30-5B):

Quadrangular space

• Borders. Teres major and teres minor muscles, long head of the triceps brachii muscle, and the humerus.

• Contents. Axillary nerve and the posterior circumflex humeral artery.

Triangular space

• Borders. Teres major and teres minor muscles and the long head of the triceps brachii muscle.

• Contents. Circumflex scapular artery.
