A variety of opportunistic infections occur in the setting of AIDS and may affect the CNS (,Table.„44z13 ). The susceptibility of individuals with HIV to opportunistic infections is related to the degree of immunosuppression, and correlates to the peripheral blood CD4+ lymphocyte count (,,T§b!e„.4.4-14.). A full discussion of the clinical features, evaluation, and management of infection with these organisms is detailed in the preceding chapters on viral (see Chapter,41 ) and nonviral („Chapter 42 ) infections.
