Car Seats

Every infant should be secured in a rear-facing car seat whenever riding in a moving vehicle. An infant car seat should never be placed in a seat equipped with an air bag, including front passenger-side and side-impact air bags (AAP Committee on Injury and Poison Prevention, 2002). In many vehicles, therefore, the safest place for the infant is the middle portion of the rear seat. Parents should be given information on how to secure the seat in their vehicle and how to secure the baby into the seat before discharge from the hospital.
