Prostatitis is a fairly common urinary tract disorder in men (Krieger et al., 2003) (see Table 40-7). Categories I (acute) and II (chronic) prostatitis are treated as infectious disorders.

The four-glass method for diagnosing and localizing prosta-titis is often recommended but has not been prospectively validated (Stevermer and Easley, 2000).
