The positive magnetic pole is thought to decrease the metabolic rate (negative effect), whereas the negative pole normalizes the body's metabolic and energy function (beneficial effect). In addition, a membrane-stabilizing effect on nociceptive fibers may occur, rendering these fibers less excitable and reducing the firing frequency of unmyelinated C fibers. Research findings do not support claims regarding efficacy of magnetic therapy.
