MDI is a complex form of shoulder instability that ranges from subtle increases in glenohumeral translation to severe instability of the glenohumeral joint. Multiple factors have been implicated in the etiology of MDI, which makes it a challenging diagnostic and therapeutic entity. Correctly diagnosed patients should initiate treatment with a formal physiotherapy program. Open and arthroscopic surgical reconstructive techniques may be necessary in those patients who fail nonoperative rehabilitation.
