Criteria For Return To Sports

Return of full range of motion and strength are required before return to athletic participation. Patients should be advised that 4 to 6 months are typically required before return to play. Throwing athletes must be encouraged to be patient, closely following the sequential steps of an interval-throwing program, and avoiding the tendency to throw too much too soon. An interval-throwing program can begin at 3 months postoperatively. Return to full throwing off a mound may take as long as 6 months.
