This creates some potential conflicts that need to be resolved in order to care safely and effectively for the athlete. The intention of this chapter is to outline the specific roles and responsibilities of the team physician. We also discuss potential sociopolitical conflicts and strategies for managing these conflicts.1 Several of the great team physicians of the past generation are featured in an attempt to further understand the role of the team physician and the many subtleties that exemplify a successful sports medicine team.
