Peritalar Dislocations Anatomy

Peritalar dislocations are acute hindfoot injuries. They result from an extreme rotational injury. The injury may also be termed a subtalar dislocation. However, since the initial event is a talonavicular dislocation with subsequent subluxation/dislocation of the subtalar joint, the term peritalar dislocation appears to be more anatomically accurate (Fig. 70-2). The condition, therefore, results in complete disruption of the talonavicular joint capsule with a variable interosseous ligament injury.
