Preparing and Draping the Patient

The most important principle of sterilely cleaning and draping the patient is to ensure that the surgeon has easy access to all potential portal sites. The Schloein positioner allows for ample posterior access. We use split sheets to drape the patient, but any drape that allows ample access is sufficient. An arthroscopy pouch is also useful to keep the floor dry. Care should also be taken to cover the patient toward the head to minimize the possibility of contamination during the procedure from the anesthesia poles and other equipment.
