Clinical failure following ACL reconstruction can be defined as recurrent knee instability, pain, stiffness, or any combination thereof that prevents a patient from undertaking a desired set of activities.6 Depending on the age and particular demands of the patient, these activities may range from high-level athletic competition to simple tasks of daily living. There is, therefore, a significant subjective element in the definition of clinical failure, and the treating surgeon must remain attuned to the individual needs of each patient. Once the diagnosis of clinical failure has been made, one must develop a thorough under-
standing of the etiology behind the failure such that the appropriate corrective measures can be taken.
